Milwaukee, WI –– The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) calls on all Milwaukeeans to take action to demand the safety and freedom of immigrant families and children and an end to the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy, which criminalizes immigrants, violently separates families, divides the working class, and rips at the fabric of our society.
We demand the immediate abolishment of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Ending the policy of family separation and placing entire families into cages is not a solution. ICE has been separating families since it was created 15 years ago. From Portland, Oregon, to Washington, DC, to Milwaukee, our members will engage in direct and immediate action to shut down ICE and all those who enable the heinous crimes ICE commits. We are launching a national campaign to abolish ICE now.
We want our communities to thrive, not struggle to survive. Every ICE raid cuts communities apart. Prison system profiteers make millions of dollars from immigrant detention centers. That’s why they fund politicians who use racist anti-immigrant rhetoric to divide us. Indefinite family detention and workplace and community raids are designed to sow fear in our communities and divide working people. That hurts us all. It’s time to #AbolishICE.
We need to attack root problems. We can’t get distracted by Trump’s lies while the police shoot black kids like #AntwonRose and the Republicans cut healthcare and Social Security for us all. That’s why we expose prison profiteers and how US foreign policy forces people to migrate to survive. Capital crosses borders but the capitalist class cages us workers to control us. That’s why we demand politicians and candidates #AbolishICE, and why we organize for democratic socialism.
