Laborious Literature Presents: Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire
Join us to discuss Paulo Freire's groundbreaking work on an education built on liberation and the unleashing of the true potential of the human mind, marxist humanism, the psychological effects of non-liberatory education systems, and more! We will be going though this work in order to see what cues we should be taking from it, analyze how the context Freire is writing in differs from ours, and to truly challenge ourselves to look inwards at our own practices and attitudes in the realms he discusses. This is an incredibly moving and hopeful piece of writing that demands the reader not let herself off the hook just because she means well- as well as one which offers practical lessons to any person who wishes to participate in the liberation of humanity from its oppressors- and every one of us can glean important lessons about all types of praxis from its pages. Attendees are expected to read the book, be prepared to discuss it, and treat each participant with respect.
Hope to see you there~
