The mission of the Tenant Power Working Group (TPWG) is to fight for housing as a human right, to advocate for public policies which align with the DSA platform of “Housing for All” and to combat the inequities and imbalances of power faced by Milwaukee residents from an antagonistic and inequitable profit-driven housing system.

Realizing this platform will utilize DSA’s overall strategy of working both within and outside the electoral system in mutually reinforcing ways; and of pushing for reforms that provide immediate impact on ordinary people but also strengthen ordinary peoples’ class position relative to the ownership class. This includes eviction prevention, which has provided immediate relief and proven local government can be forced to respond in favor of tenants and against landlords; seeking opportunities to expose tenants to anticapitalist housing policies such as rent controls, length of tenure regulations, and public housing; and tenant union organizing which will strengthen the position of renters by enabling them to act collectively against their own landlord and pressure local government.
